FPT Technologies and CapRite needed to increase the thread protector I.D. contact force for lighter-weight 5-1/2" casing (17 lb/ft) to enable drift on the fly. 2H Offshore supported CapRite in modifying the Bow Spring design using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in ANSYS. The resulting analysis confirmed a 27-pound pull-off force on nominal 5-1/2" 17 lb/ft pipe, allowing the CapRite drift to land in the protector without it coming unseated.
